I have finished Like Water for Chocolate a few weeks back. And I’m just blogging about it today.
“The novel follows the story of a young girl named Tita who longs her entire life to marry her lover, Pedro, but can never have him because of her mother’s upholding of the family tradition of the youngest daughter not marrying but taking care of her mother until the day she dies.”
What got me interested with this book is its attempt to blend food and literature. Every chapter freshly starts with a recipe. I loved how Tita ties food, her cooking, and her feelings all together. It’s a fairly good book. It’s love, sex, and magic with a Mexican twist.

Today, I went to National Bookstore for a book haul (I sound so YouTube right now). They’re on sale (so are other book stores actually. It’s probably ‘the’ season.) However, the books that I bought are not on sale, well except one. Haha.
I’ve been eyeing Beat the Reaper for a while now. They say it’s like House meets The Sopranos. With buying a book, the plot content and cover really plays a big part for me. This one hits both.
“The plot concerns Peter Brown, a medical resident in the Federal Witness Protection Program. Through flashbacks, Brown narrates how under his real name of Pietro Brwna, he fell in with a Mafia family and became a hitman after avenging the deaths of his Auschwitz-surviving grandparents. In the present, Brown must help save the life of a mobster from his past, lest the patient reveal Brwna/Brown’s location to the local boss.”
And OMG! I just found out that this is going to be turned into a major film flick soon, and with Peter Brown as none other than, Leo DiCarpio. Ultra Cool! So yeah, hopefully this would be an epic read. I’ll take this on first. I will update you guys as soon as I finish the book. In the meantime, visit its awesome website. It has a nice plot game and everything.
The other I got is Stalking the Puzzle Lady. I honestly got this one because it was on sale. I’m not too crazy about the cover. I actually thought that it was kind of baduy. But then, the plot seems promising. It’s murder-mystery-thriller that involves crossword puzzles. Say whut? Haha. Well, let’s see how it goes.
And then, there’s The Book Thief. I must admit that I’m cheating with this one. This is actually my sister’s. Haha! But hey, I picked it out for her. So yeah, I’ll read this once she’s finished with it. I’ve read a lot of good reviews about this. So again, let’s see how it goes.
As for you: What are you reading right now? Do you have a book you’d like to recommend?
UPDATE: Link exchanges are up! Please tell me if you want your site to be included. And there’s going to be a GIVEAWAY here next week!!! So please do watch out for that.
