Well if you remember, I’ve blogged about a number of books that I bought back like a month ago, and I promised you guys I’ll update you with a review of some sorts.

I read Beat the Reaper in like in 1 and half a day or something. To be brief, it’s about this man, a medical intern, named Peter Brown but that’s not his real name and that’s not his real job, well before… His real name is Peter Brwna. After testifying against his former boss and former occupation in the mafia, he is then put into witness protection program and now he’s happily working in a hospital. But then when a person in his past ends up in the patient’s bed, he has no choice but to recount his past life (and let us in on it too) and RUN!
I loved this one. It is a page turner. It’s funny. It’s witty. I love the dialogues. Even if I’m like the last person to be a doctor nor a mafia member, I could relate to Peter Brown or Brnwha. There are some unbelievably crazy moments, as in bone-breaking moments, but that will only tickle your imagination more. It’s really an enjoyable book. I recommend it.

That is not the case with Stalking the Puzzle Lady. Not only does it have the corniest title and page cover, but the story is just… bleb. It’s a murder mystery with a mixture of crossword puzzles. Okay fine I thought it would be something interesting at first, but now that I read it and have thought about it… it’s corny. It’s shallow and the culprit of the crime is someone just… you wouldn’t expect it. It’s unpredictable but in a bad way. Like in a crime murder mystery genre, they’re supposed to give you some clues of some sorts. Well this one does but after all is revealed, the clues are just useless. On the other side, this is a page turner, actually. Only because I want to get it over with, and just know who the killer is.

Last one is The Book Thief. I haven’t actually finished it and still currently reading it. How is it so far? Well… it’s a lyrically beautiful book. It’s poetry in prose. But not always in the good way. The words are so beautiful… It’s so extensive… The words demands your attention and you just have to linger in each one… and sometimes it’s in a way that it’s actually putting me to yawns and eventually sleep. Plot development and pacing I think is too slow than the average book. Sometimes I find myself getting bored and questioning this book. I’ve read good reviews about it. It is just me who does not appreciate this work? Is something wrong with my reading? Haha. But I do like the characters and how they are built up in the story. Character development accounts for the slow plot development. So there. Yeah, I’m going to continue reading this. I’m still intrigued on what is going to happen next and next even if it’s at a slow pace. It’s still a beautiful story, I’m sure.

I still have lots of books lined up. Well actually, just one, just the middle one, because the rest are coffee table books that I just added to my collection. Oi Pikey! is all about cheap living its history and manifestations in everyday life. It was speaking to the cheapskate the I am, so I grabbed it off the Powerbooks Sale. It’s only 50 pesos. Once Upon A Day is only 37.50 pesos. The Fine Art of Advertising is 320 pesos from Book Sale, but that’s pretty cheap since a brand new coffee-table book would cost like a thousand or even more.
HOW ABOUT YOU? WHAT ARE YOU READING TODAY?
